William Grimes has been a reporter at The New York Times for more than 25 years. After starting out as a story editor for the Sunday magazine, he worked in the culture department and was the paper’s restaurant critic for five years before joining the obituaries department. He is the author of “Straight Up or On the Rocks” and “Appetite City: A Culinary History of New York.”

William McDonald is the Obituaries Editor of The New York Times. He joined the newspaper in 1988 and has held editing positions on the paper’s Metropolitan, National, Culture and Obituaries desks. In 2000, he was part of a team that won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for National News for the series How Race is Lived in America.
