UGETSU introduced by Eric Nyari of Cineric Labs

Eric Nyari of Cineric Labs will introduce the 7:00 pm show of Mizoguchi’s UGETSU on opening night, Friday, March 3.  Following the film, Mr. Nyari will present a before-and-after restoration demonstration. UGETSU will be screened in a new 4K restoration from Cineric and the Film Foundation.

Eric Nyari is the International Representative for Cineric, Inc., one of the world’s leading restoration laboratories, as well as Head of New Content.  A frequent visitor to Japan, and fluent in the language, his Japanese projects have included supervising a recent 4K restoration of Ozu’s Late Spring and Cineric's new restoration of Ugetsu.  Eric has also produced several films, including Amir Naderi’s CUT and Yoshifumi Tsubota’s The Shell Collector. His current projects include a portrait documentary of musician and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Founded in 1982 by Balázs Nyari, Cineric, Inc. has restored and preserved over 1,000 films for such studios as Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, The Walt Disney Company, and Universal Pictures, while collaborating on special projects with the Academy Film Archive, Anthology Film Archives, British Film Institute, EYE Film Institute Netherlands, George Eastman House, International Olympic Committee, Museum of Modern Art, New York Public Library, and Whitney Museum of American Art, as well as dozens of university archives, professional sports leagues, and other institutions. Recent projects have included comprehensive restorations of The Grapes of Wrath, How Green Was My Valley, The Hustler, Wild River, Mash, Zorba the Greek and The Longest Day with Twentieth Century Fox, Bye Bye Birdie, Picnic, On the Waterfront, as well as collaborative restorations of Taxi Driver, The Guns of Navarone, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail with Sony Pictures, Jaws, Dracula, and Frankenstein with Universal Pictures, Ugetsu with Kadokawa and The Film Foundation, and Night of the Living Dead with MoMA and The Film Foundation.
