Founded in 2018 by a group of innovative young film scholars and professionals from both China and the US, the annual CineCina Film Festival (CineCina) is New York’s only festival dedicated to discovering and showcasing Chinese-language cinema. CineCina believes that cinema is a powerful medium that can bridge language differences to convey ideas across different cultural backgrounds. CineCina is committed to build such an outlet to promote cultural exchange and understanding among diverse audiences.

Lou Ye was born to a theatrical family in Shanghai in 1965. He spent his childhood in theatres and studied at Shanghai School of Fine Arts before working as an animator at Shanghai Animation Studio. He graduated from Beijing Film Academy in 1989, majoring in directing. His films have been selected by all the major international festivals (Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Taipei Golden Horse Awards, Chinese Independent Film Festival, Asian Film Awards) and awarded various prizes.

Frank Yan is the director of programming at CineCina. He's also the co-founder of the boutique distribution company Crescendo House as well as a China-based soundtrack record label Soundtrack Magazine.
