Q&A with Filmmaker Göran Hugo Olsson

Göran Hugo Olsson was born in 1965 in Lund, Sweden. He pursued his education at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, following initial film studies at Stockholm University. A documentary filmmaker, cinematographer, and inventor, Olsson founded and edited the short documentary TV program Ikon on SVT, and worked on SVT’s Elbyl series. He cofounded Story AB and served on the editorial board of Ikon South Africa, a platform dedicated to the creative documentary scene in South Africa for the SABC. From 1999 to 2002, Olsson was a Film Commissioner at the Swedish Film Institute. His documentary THE BLACK POWER MIXTAPE 1967-1975 (2011) won the Editing Award at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and screened at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival. His documentary CONCERNING VIOLENCE (2014), screened at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival in the Panorama Dokumente section. His films won multiple Guldbagge Awards in 2012 and 2015. His contributions to the field earned him a place as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
