Michael Almereyda is a writer and director of fiction features and documentaries. His most recent features are MARJORIE PRIME (2017), for which actress Lois Smith was nominated for Gotham and Film Independent Spirit Awards, and EXPERIMENTER (2015), starring Peter Saarsgard. He wrote and directed the NYC-set HAMLET (2000), starring Ethan Hawke, which The New York Times called “a vital and sharply intelligent film.” He has also directed a number of critically acclaimed documentaries, including THIS SO-CALLED DISASTER (2003), which chronicles the production of a Sam Shepard play, and WILLIAM EGGLESTON IN THE REAL WORLD (2005) a profile of the legendary color photographer, both of which premiered at Film Forum. He wrote the first draft of the screenplay for Wim Wenders’ 1991 film, UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD.
