Andrew Young is an Emmy Award-winning, Academy Award®-nominated Director, Cinematographer, Writer, and Producer, and the Co-Founder of Archipelago Films, Inc., a New York-based production company. He has had a distinguished career making impactful, cutting-edge character-based films for clients such as HBO, National Geographic, NBC, PBS, and the BBC. His films have garnered three Emmys and he is the recipient of five awards from the Sundance Film Festival. Young works in both dramatic and documentary genres in a variety of styles, and often with his filmmaking partner, Susan Todd. Their most recent work is the 3D Giant Screen/IMAX® film, WINGS OVER WATER, about migratory birds, narrated by Michael Keaton. This film and their previous Giant Screen film, BACKYARD WILDERNESS, were both awarded the Best Giant Screen Film of the Year. Past film highlights include CHILDREN OF FATE, which was nominated for an Oscar® for best feature documentary and also received the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival; LIVES IN HAZARD, which received a Director’s Guild of America nomination and premiered on prime time NBC with an introduction by President Bill Clinton; and AMERICANOS, featuring Carlos Santana, Tito Puente and other inspiring Latinos. In addition to Archipelago Films, he and Todd co-founded Arise Media, a non-profit media company with the mission of making high-impact media about the most pressing social and environmental issues of our time. Young holds a Master’s Degree in Physical Anthropology from Yale University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree with highest honors in Anthropology from Harvard College. Robert M. Young was his father.
