FILM FORUM 50

Thank you for being a friend to Film Forum. As you may know, we are expanding and renovating this spring -- to bring you even more independent premieres and classic movies, in a more comfortable setting.

Oscar winner (and current nominee) Frances McDormand recently sat down at Posteritati Movie Poster Gallery to talk about why she is a long-time supporter of Film Forum. With characteristic wit and gravitas, she tells us about the early days of her relationship with Joel Coen, their tradition of coming to Film Forum, and the importance of seeing movies on a big screen. Please enjoy the full video below.

A recent New York Times op-ed piece (by Emily Esfahani Smith) warns that “thanks to social media, purpose and meaning have become conflated with glamour.” She counters that notion with George Eliot’s words from “Middlemarch”: “…the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts.”

Smith suggests that “a meaningful life is about… connecting and contributing to something beyond the self, in whatever humble form that may take.”

We ask you to take a moment for an unhistoric act that, nevertheless will add meaning to your life and that of your fellow New Yorkers. Please make a one-time contribution to our capital campaign (it’s 100% tax-deductible).

Many thanks. We look forward to seeing you at the movies.
