SENSO introduced by Opera Journalist August Ventura

Journalist, filmmaker and Verdi devotee August Ventura will introduce Visconti’s Senso on Monday, October 29. Set during Italy’s Risorgimento, Senso opens with a performance of Verdi’s Il Trovatore at Venice’s La Fenice operahouse; Ventura will explain the role Verdi’s operas played as an agent of social and political change.

An ardent devotee of the life and works of Giuseppe Verdi, August Ventura is the creator of 27: The Verdi Documentary Film Project, a not-for-profit initiative created to promote and advance the composer's enduring legacy. He has contributed numerous articles for Opera News and has lectured at the Metropolitan Opera Guild, The Metropolitan Opera Club, The Knickerbocker Club, The Century Association,  The Lotos Club, The Italian Cultural Institute, The National Arts Club, Festival Verdi at Teatro Regio, and numerous colleges and universities. August’s work has been the subject of recent articles in The New Yorker and The New York Times. He recently presented the rediscovered 1963 film In the Mouth of the Wolf, about the city of Parma’s obsession with Verdi, at Film Forum.
