Sweden, 1986
Written & Directed by Zetterling
Starring Stina Ekblad, Erland Josephson
New DCP restoration courtesy Swedish Film Institute and Janus Films.
Approx. 117 min.

For her final feature, Zetterling returned to pioneering Swedish feminist writer Agnes von Krusenstjerna (1894-1940), whose seven-volume novel Fröknarna von Pahlen, she had adapted for her first feature LOVING COUPLES. Stina Ekblad (Ismael in Bergman’s FANNY AND ALEXANDER) stars as the controversial writer, through her rebellion against her aristocratic family, her troubled romance with notorious older man David Sprengel (Erland Josephson), and her mental health struggles.
