“This Laurel and Hardy comedy opens during World War I. The boys are soldiers on the front lines, and as Ollie goes ‘over the top,’ Stan is ordered to remain behind and guard the trench. He does so for the next twenty years! When they’re finally reunited, Stan tells his old pal, ‘You how how dumb I used to be? Well, I’m better now.’ But not quite. The rest of the film shows Stan and Ollie getting into all sorts of jams, from a misunderstanding with Ollie’s wife to an altercation with a tough-guy neighbor. Then there’s the time Stan leaves the gas on too long in the kitchen... BLOCK-HEADS is short and sweet, an easygoing, very funny film that coasts on the delightful personalities of its stars and has an ample supply of sight gags to keep things lively.” – Leonard Maltin
