Directed by René Clair
With Albert Préjean, Pola Illéry
Approx. 93 min. DCP restoration.
Street singer Albert Préjean falls for Pola Illéry, but he’s not the only one… and then he’s literally left holding the bag. Clair’s first sound film kept dialogue to a minimum — eliminating it when an argument proceeds behind a glass door or a noisy train passes — and eliminating picture when the lights go out on a knife fight.
Reviews
“One of the most breathtaking of the early sync-sound masterpieces.”
