“JAZZ ON A SPRING DAY” introduced by author Will Friedwald
8:10
Monday, June 8
Will Friedwald, columnist for The Wall St. Journal and author of eight books on music and popular culture (including A Biographical Guide to the Great Jazz and Pop Singers, published by Pantheon), will introduce the 8:10 screening of “Jazz on a Spring Day,” a program of nine newly restored short starring jazz’s greatest stars.
“Jazz on a Spring Day” screens as a double feature with a new restoration of William Dieterle’s Syncopation, a feature-length musical saga tracing jazz’s (highly fictionalized) evolution from Dixieland and ragtime right into the swing era.
