Edmundo Desnoes, author of the original novel Memorias del desarrollo, will appear in person for an audience Q&A following the 8:00 screening of Memories of Underdevelopment on Friday, January 12. Look out for his cameo in the film on a literary panel.

Edmundo began his literary career in the early 1950’s, writing for “Origenes,” a Cuban literary magazine. In 1956, he went to New York to work as editor at a Spanish language magazine, “Vision.” He returned to Cuba in 1959 in the aftermath of the revolution, where he was editor for the periodical “Revolucion” and a member of the editorial board for “Casa de las Americas,” a foundation for the promotion of Latin American literature. He defected from Cuba in 1979 and settled in the US in 1980.
