(1993) Michelle Pfeiffer’s Countess Olenska is back in 1870s NYC after a botched marriage to a Polish aristocrat, even as her young cousin Winona Ryder is looking forward to marriage to Daniel Day-Lewis. But then things, very subtly, get complicated. Jay Cocks began his writing career as a film critic for Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, and other publications. He went on to write the screenplays for Kathryn Bigelow’s Strange Days and Martin Scorsese’s celebrated The Age of Innocence and Gangs of New York, both of which received Best Screenplay Oscar nominations.
