Agnès Varda: From Here to There is an intimate, five-part documentary chronicle that serves as a sketchbook of some of the filmmaker’s favorite motifs: angels, skeletons and skulls, and artists at work. Varda travels from France to Mexico, Portugal, and the US, visiting artists including Manoel de Oliveira, Chris Marker, and Alexander Calder.
The series captures her “gleaning” philosophy—finding beauty in the peripheral and the everyday. It becomes a cinematic essay on the passage of time and the boundless wonder of a cinematic icon in her later years.
