More than just an introduction to his impressive filmography, the film uses soul-searching archival interviews with Widerberg, and unvarnished testimony from family, colleagues, and friends, to reveal his turbulent personal life. Directors including Olivier Assayas, Mia Hansen-Løve, and Ruben Östlund, discuss Widerberg’s influence on their own films.
