MILLER’S CROSSING

2:40   7:15

Saturday, January 30

(1990) “What’s the rumpus?” The Coens employ the Prohibition-era slang and serpentine plotting of Dashiell Hammett (in nods to THE GLASS KEY and RED HARVEST) as Gabriel Bryne’s Irish fixer Tom inveighs city boss Leo (Albert Finney) to give up crooked bookmaker Bernie (John Turturro) to appease irascible Italian gangster Johnny (Jon Polito). Only problem? Bernie’s sister (Marcia Gay Harden) is Leo’s moll. Highlight: Finney single-handedly taking on an army of Johnny’s button men, armed with a Thompson machine gun and the Victrola sounds of “Danny Boy.” DCP. Approx. 115 mins.
