(1964, John Huston) Defrocked clergyman turned tour bus guide Richard Burton gets caught in a flesh vs. spirit tango in a Mexican coastal village, as he becomes the object of desire for Ava Gardner, Deborah Kerr, and Lolita-like Sue Lyon. Skillful adaptation of the Williams play, with sensual photography of soon-to-be notorious Puerto Vallarta by Gabriel Figueroa (Los Olvidados, The Exterminating Angel). Approx. 125 min. 35mm.

Reviews

"Williams is treated with respect rather than reverence, and Huston injects his own sly humour.”
