“Liam Neeson — before relentless action-hero mode — stars as the German industrialist Oskar Schindler, who staffs his factory in Krakow using Jewish people from the ghetto as cheap labour. Gradually, as the truth about the Nazis’ persecution becomes clear, he realises he must act. By bribing the Nazis to allow him to keep his Jewish workforce, he saves more than 1,000 lives. Spielberg employs all the emotive Hollywood tools at his disposal and the result is a remarkable film with wide appeal and real importance. Neeson is phenomenal, but matched by towering performances from Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes.” – The Times (UK)

Presented with support from The Joan S. Constantiner Fund for Jewish and Holocaust Films, donated by Leon Constantiner and Family

Reviews

“Few American movies since the silent era have had anything approaching this picture's narrative boldness, visual audacity, and emotional directness.”
– Terrence Rafferty, The New Yorker

“A near-documentary, brilliantly designed and choreographed, [and] a character study in which Ralph Fiennes, the winningly urbane Liam Neeson, and the magnificently impassive Ben Kingsley attain a memorable dramatic intensity.”
Sight & Sound

“Arguably the greatest American film to have been made about the Holocaust.”
– Wendy Ide, The Times (UK)
