THE INCREDIBLY TRUE ADVENTURE OF TWO GIRLS IN LOVE
U.S., 1995
Directed by Maria Maggenti
With Laurel Holloman, Nicole Ari Parker, Maggie Moore, Dale Dickey
Approx. 94 min. DCP.
Like prancing through a meadow at the golden hour, THE INCREDIBLY TRUE ADVENTURES OF TWO GIRLS IN LOVE tells the slowly erupting story of Randy and Evie. Raised by dykes and working at the local gas station, cargo short-wearing out lesbian Randy (Laurel Holloman, Tina of The L Word) accidentally falls for the curious, straight and straight-A earning, benevolent Evie (Nicole Ari Parker), who drives a Range Rover and sleeps next to her worn copy of Leaves of Grass. Neither their classmates’ homophobia nor the typical pressures of young love can drown this one out — they pass love notes in class and sit back to back in fields listening to Mozart. A refreshingly touching and optimistic look at teen love that is unapologetically lesbian.
