TITICUT FOLLIES plus Q&A with composer Leonard Pickett, moderated by Tarik O’Regan

Lenny Pickett, composer of the new Titicut Follies ballet, will appear in person for a Q&A following the 8:20 screening on Saturday, April 22. 

Lenny Pickett began his career playing saxophone and clarinet in bars and on the street. He toured with the Tower Of Power through the 70’s and he worked with David Bowie, The Talking Heads, Laurie Anderson, and others during the 80’s. He has composed music for dance and theater (including the opera “Welfare”, with Fred Wiseman), and he has also contributed compositions for recordings by Alan Ginsberg and William Burroughs. His music has been performed by The Kronos Quartet, The New Century Saxophone Quartet, The Borneo Horns and others. He is currently the bandleader for NBC’s Saturday Night Live, where he has worked since 1985. He also teaches in the Jazz Studies Program at NYU. 

Tarik O’Regan is a composer currently working on a full-scale opera about the life of Lorenzo Da Ponte commissioned by Houston Grand Opera for 2019. He is also preparing for the 2017 Amsterdam revival of Mata Hari, an evening-length ballet commissioned by Dutch National Ballet, recently issued on DVD/Blu-ray. Additionally, this season sees the release of A Celestial Map of the Sky, a new album of orchestral music performed by the Hallé Orchestra. O’Regan is also the Senior Fellow at the Center for Ballet and the Arts, NYU.
