(1951) Starving artist Gene Kelly finds love on the Left Bank with shopgirl Leslie Caron (in her debut), in the multiple Oscar-winner (8 in all), including Best Picture. Featuring a great Gershwin score, with “I Got Rhythm,” sung and tapped by Gene with the neighborhood gosses: “Our Love is Here to Stay,” danced Seine-side by Kelly & Caron; and the ballet finale inspired by the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. Max von Essen, who plays French aspiring musical hall star Henri Baurel in Broadway’s new smash production of An American in Paris (for which he received a Tony nomination), will introduce the Film Forum Jr. screening of Vincente Minnelli’s original Oscar-winning movie musical. Mr. Von Essen’s other Broadway credits include Evita, Death Takes a Holiday, Les Miserables, and Dance of the Vampires.
