Wilcox) When Roddy McDowall’s family falls on hard times in Depression-era Yorkshire, they resort to selling their beloved Lassie (played by a male collie named Pal) to Nigel Bruce’s wealthy Duke of Rudling, who whisks her away to Scotland. But then the duke’s granddaughter Elizabeth Taylor (in her first major film role at age 11) cooks up the dog's escape, just the beginning of a long journey home. Based on Eric Knight’s original story. DCP.
