Isabelle Huppert is among the most famous and celebrated French actresses in the world. The young leading lady with the delectable features of THE LACEMAKER has made a name for herself with some of her country's greatest filmmakers: Claude Chabrol, who made seven features with her, notably VIOLETTE and STORY OF WOMEN, Jean-Luc Godard, Claire Denis, Bertrand Tavernier, Diane Kurys, Maurice Pialat, Catherine Breillat, Michel Deville, François Ozon and André Téchiné. A keen admirer of the great European auteurs, she has also worked with Joseph Losey, Marco Ferreri and Michael Haneke, who gave her the pivotal title role in THE PIANO TEACHER, and in 2016 with Paul Verhoeven, for whom she starred in the thriller ELLE, which earned her an Oscar® nomination. From the start of her career, her insatiable curiosity and taste for singular experiences have taken her to the United States, where she appeared in Michael Cimino's legendary HEAVEN’S GATE (1980), and more recently to the Philippines and South Korea, where she acted under the direction of Brillante Mendoza and Hong Sangsoo (IN ANOTHER COUNTRY, CLAIRE’S CAMERA, A TRAVELER’S NEEDS). Capable of moving from a sophisticated comedy to a demanding auteur film, she never stops filming, turning each of her characters into a singular enigma that she enriches with her genuineness and irony.
