Born in Brooklyn, the late Carl Davis made his mark in the U.K. in the early 1960s as a composer and conductor for film (THE FRENCH LIEUTANANT'S WOMAN), television (The World at War, Pride and Prejudice), ballet, and concert works (Liverpool Oratorio, written with Paul McCartney). But he’s best known to fans of classic films for his music for the Kevin Brownlow/David Gill series Hollywood and for his marvelous full orchestral scores for silent films, everything from the comedies of Chaplin, Keaton and Lloyd to his magnum opus for a magnum opus, Abel Gance’s NAPOLEON.

On what would have been Carl Davis' 87th birthday, we present Buster Keaton’s early masterpiece OUR HOSPITALITY (which turns 100 this year) with a score composed and conducted by Davis and performed by the Thames Silents Orchestra, along with tributes from Film Forum’s Repertory Artistic Director Bruce Goldstein and Carl’s two daughters, Hannah Davis and Jessie Stevenson.
