MOHAWK NATION introduced by director Allan Siegel

Director Allan Siegel will introduce a brand new restoration of his film Mohawk Nation (1978), a documentary on the Mohawk community of Ganienkeh. Unseen in 40 years, the film was restored by Third World Newsreel especially for this screening. Mohawk Nation will screen with Mike Kanentakeron Mitchell’s You are on Indian Land (1969).
Allan Siegel is a filmmaker, visual artist and teacher. He was one of the founding members of the documentary film collective Newsreel and later a co-director of Third World Newsreel. His films have been presented at major international festivals and on public television throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. His photographs and video installations have been exhibited in major museums in the United States as well as in Hungary, England, Germany and Russia. He lives in Budapest and teaches in the Intermedia Department and in the doctoral program at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. He is the author of numerous articles and essays about film, media and art - his most recent publication is Close Encounters of the Food Kind: Cities Public Space and Democracy. He is currently editing a feature length documentary about the assassination of Malcolm X.
