SONS OF THE DESERT & THE BATTLE OF THE CENTURY introduced by Jeff Joseph

11:00 AM

Sunday, February 25

On Sunday, February 25 at 11am, film archivist Jeff Joseph will introduce fantastic new restoration of the Laurel and Hardy sound feature SONS OF THE DESERT, plus their silent short THE BATTLE OF THE CENTURY, with live piano accompaniment by Steve Sterner.

(1933, William A. Seiter) In SONS OF THE DESERT, generally considered their best (and funniest) feature film, Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy use a fake doctor-ordered sea voyage to join in the horseplay of their lodge’s annual convention in Honolulu. Restored by the UCLA Film & Television Archive and The Film Foundation, with funding provided by the George Lucas Family Foundation.

Plus silent short THE BATTLE OF THE CENTURY (1927, Clyde Bruckman), with Stan and Ollie in the middle of the biggest pie fight in movie history. Long thought to exist only in fragments, this new restoration is the most complete version seen in over 90 years. Live piano accompaniment by Steve Sterner.
Program approx. 88 min.
