Post-film conversation with filmmaker Manfred Kirchheimer, moderated by film programmer and Founder of The Film Desk, Jake Perlin
Manfred Kirchheimer came to the US in 1936 and has lived in New York City ever since. He studied film with Hans Richter and worked alongside Leo Hurwitz as cinematographer on many of his greatest works, including In Search of Hart Crane and Discovery in a Painting. Kirchheimer's films include Stations of the Elevated, We Were So Beloved (which premiered at Film Forum in 1986), My Coffee with Jewish Friends, and the trilogy Dream of a City, Free Time and Up the Lazy River, comprised of footage shot with Walter Hess, beginning in 1958, and to which One More Time (2022) is a coda.
