LES ENFANTS TERRIBLES
France, 1950
Directed by Jean-Pierre Melville
With Renée Cosima, Edouard Dermit, Nicole Stéphane
Based on a novel by Jean Cocteau
Approx. 105 min. 35mm courtesy British Film Institute.
Nemesis and crush object Renée Cosima clobbers all-too-sensitive Edouard Dermit with a snowball at his boy’s school, but his most intense relationship is with his own sister Nicole Stéphane, in an overwhelming performance. From Jean Cocteau’s 1929 novel, but, as Cocteau admitted, definitively Melville’s film.
