(1944, William Cameron Menzies) German expatriates/San Francisco art dealers Paul Lukas and Morris Carnovsky keep up a regular correspondence after the gentile Lukas decides to return to the Heimat for business purposes – but is Lukas really getting in bed with the Nazis? Carnovsky’s daughter K.T. Stevens finds out for herself for sure. WCM and DP Rudolph Maté gave the picture a “stark, unsettling look” (Curtis). 35mm. Approx. 75 min.
