(1953, Gerald Mayer) Following in the wake of the “problem picture” cycle (post-war movies that dealt for the firs time with race in America), this rare Hollywood Black family picture stars Dorothy Dandridge, as a sensitive schoolteacher trying to reach a troubled student, Harry Belafonte, in his screen debut, as the school principal. Though the movie doesn’t develop a romance, the two leads obviously have stars in their eyes for each other – a relationship fully consummated in the next year’s Carmen Jones. With Vivian Dandridge, Maidie Norman. HDCAM. Approx. 68 min.
