(1946, Emilio Fernández) During the Mexican Revolution, General Pedro Armendáriz takes the town of Cholula and starts to shake down the rich, but also falls for Señor Moneybags’ staunch conservative, spitfire daughter, played by legendary diva María Félix. And then the federales start moving in. The Gone with the Wind of Mexican classics, it swept the Ariels (Mexico’s Oscars), winning for Best Film, Director, Actress, Editing, and Figueroa’s cinematography.
