FINALEMENT
FIRST U.S. SCREENING - INTRODUCED BY WRITER/DIRECTOR CLAUDE LELOUCH
France, 2024
Directed by Claude Lelouch
With Kad Merad, Elsa Zylberstein, Michel Boujenah, Sandrine Bonnaire, Françoise Fabian
Approx. 129 min.
A brilliant and bourgeois lawyer (Kad Merad), finding himself unable to tell a lie after a health scare, hits the road in vagabond clothing for a series of adventures all across France, for this musical fantasy “mise en vie” by 86-year-old writer/director Claude Lelouch, the 51st film in a feature career that began with A MAN AND A WOMAN. A sequel of sorts to Lelouch’s 1974 classic LA BONNE ANNÉE (screening on Saturday, April 12 and Thurday, April 17), with Merad and half-sister Sandrine Bonnaire (star of Varda’s VAGABOND and Chabrol’s LA CERÉMONIE) as offspring of the earlier film’s Lino Ventura, with Françoise Fabian in the role she played 50 years earlier.
Reviews
“This jocular musical comedy-drama is something of a treasure trove for Lelouch fans, containing not only explicit as well as more easter-egg-like references to many of the director’s previous 50 features, but also a sprawling cast composed of familiar faces. Indeed, there’s a strong sense that Lelouch is trying to create a kind of synthesis of his work for one last outing on the big screen.”
