SPECIAL FREE SCREENING IN HONOR OF LEX KAPLEN

Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the box office, on day of show.

Film Forum is honored to present a special screening of Preston Sturges’s comic masterpiece HAIL THE CONQUERING HERO in memory of our late board member Alexander Kaplen.  HAIL THE CONQUERING HERO (1944), starring Eddie Bracken, was one of Lex’s favorite movies. Like Lex, the movie is witty, smart, and constantly surprising. We invite all movie lovers to attend this special screening and join us in remembering someone who played an important role in Film Forum’s development over many years.

About the movie: Eddie Bracken’s 4-F Woodrow Truesmith is railroaded into returning to his small town as a war hero — and unwillingly thrust into a nightmare of cheering throngs, political campaigns and guilt-ridden mother love. Approx. 101 min. DCP.

Reviews

“This riotously funny motion picture, this superlative small-town comedy, is also one of the wisest ever to burst from a big-time studio.”
– The New York Times (original review).

“The dialogue keeps popping off like a string of firecrackers.”
– Pauline Kael
