U.S., 1973
Directed by John G. Avildsen
Starring Jack Lemmon, Laurie Heineman, Jack Gilford
WINNER Academy Awards® – Best Actor (Jack Lemmon), 1973
Approx. 100 min. DCP.

“Harry Stoner (Jack Lemmon), a Los Angeles garment manufacturer, lives in a Tudor mansion in Beverly Hills where, in cold dawns, heated swimming pools steam ominously, like tanning vats. He sends his daughter to a Swiss finishing school, drives a limousine equipped with a telephone and has a wife who suggests that he see a certain Dr. Frankfurter to cure his nightmares. ‘Hypnosis is the thing,’ she says. If not hypnosis, Harry is in great need of something, including money. To finance his disintegration into middle age, he juggles the books of Capri Casuals and isn't adverse to acting as a pimp for an important client.” – The New York Times

Reviews

“SAVE THE TIGER is essentially a virtuoso piece of movie acting. Jack Lemmon holds the movie together by the sheer force of his performance as Harry; he makes this character so convincing that we’re fascinated. We leave the movie thinking that Harry Stoner isn’t such a great guy. We have met him, and because of Lemmon’s performance, we won’t forget him.”
