Japan, 1941
Directed by Yasujirō Ozu
With Mieko Takamine, Shin Saburi, Hideo Fujino
Approx. 105 min. 35mm.

In the wake of the death of a wealthy family’s patriarch, a kind of replay of King Lear and TOKYO STORY (in reverse), mother and youngest sister Mieko Takamine are shunted from household to household—until a return of erstwhile happy-go-lucky youngest son Shin Saburi. Ozu’s first bona fide box office hit and fourth Kinema Junpo “Best One” winner.
