Director Hai Ninh was among the first graduates of the Vietnam Cinema School (est. 1959). In Vietnamese, with English subtitles. New DCP restoration. Approx. 72 min.

Reviews

“Amazing how strong and accomplished and beautiful it is, particularly given the almost impossible circumstances under which it was made.”
– Jonathan Rosenbaum

“A work of gorgeous propaganda that exalts the role of women and girls in keeping alive the soul of a nation during times of colonial war... For all the sorrow and the pity, the score is so lush it could have been composed by Michel Legrand.”
– Sukhdev Sandhu, 4 Columns
