THE MAJOR AND THE MINOR

U.S., 1942
Directed by Billy Wilder
Starring Ginger Rogers, Ray Milland, Diana Lynn
Screenplay by Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett
Approx. 100 min. 35mm/DCP.

After Robert Benchley leers, “Why don’t you get out of those wet clothes and into a dry martini?,” working girl Ginger Rogers feigns pre-adolescence to afford train fare home, then runs into too helpful Major Ray Milland and all-knowing real-kid Diana Lynn. Commented Wilder of his directorial debut, “We got away with situations sexier than LOLITA.” Wilder’s directorial debut is a prepubescent SOME LIKE IT HOT.
