Kinuyo Tanaka’s bar is going down the drain and so is her sick, hard-bozzing husband So Yamamura (TORA! TORA! TORA!’s Admiral Yamamoto). But is sister Hideko Takamine, in-between doing kodan routines, more interested in Tanaka’s old flame Ken Uehara as a fall-back or for herself? Rare Ozu adaptation of a then-popular novel.
