Il tetto (1956, De Sica) Not much space for amore for newlyweds Gabriella Pallotta and Giorgio Listuzzi, shoehorned with in-laws and other assorted buttinsky relatives into a single tiny apartment. And as tempers flare, a Roman legal loophole looms: squatters’ shacks are legal if they’ve got a door and roof in the morning — looks like it’s an all-nighter for bricklayer Listuzzi and his pals. De Sica and Zavattini’s final work of pure neo-realism, with location shooting and all non-pro cast. Approx. 91 min. 35mm print courtesy Cineteca di Bologna.
