NEW RESTORATION

(1952, Elia Kazan) Brando’s Mexican peasant revolutionary Emiliano Zapata finds that, once in power, he too– along with Oscar-winning brother Anthony Quinn– can be corrupted. Using Eisensteinian visuals Kazan considered this his first really personal film, co-conceived from the very beginning with scripter John Steinbeck. Winner, Grand Prix, Cannes. Approx. 113 min. 35mm.
