The series includes Zwigoff’s debut film, LOUIE BLUIE (1985), a documentary tribute to the obscure country-blues musician and idiosyncratic visual artist Howard “Louie Bluie” Armstrong, a member of the last known Black string band in America; CRUMB (1994), a documentary portrait of underground cartoonist Robert Crumb, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival and premiered theatrically at Film Forum (it holds the record for the longest-running premiere to date at 7 months); the cult favorite GHOST WORLD (2001), based on the graphic novel by Daniel Clowes and nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Adapted Screenplay; the Director’s Cut of BAD SANTA (2003), starring Billy Bob Thornton as a foul-mouthed, alcoholic con man posing as a mall Santa; and ART SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL (2006), a witty drama and critique of the institutional art world.
