TO BE OR NOT TO BE with Joan Benny in person

1:30

Sunday, April 23

Ernst Lubitsch’s To Be or Not To Be (1942), starring Jack Benny and Carole Lombard (in her final performance), will have a special screening at Film Forum on April 23 at 1:30pm. Following the screening, film historian Foster Hirsch will interview Benny’s daughter, Joan.

“So they call me Concentration Camp Ehrhardt.” With Carole Lombard (in the final film before her tragic death) as his Ophelia, Jack Benny – as Joseph Tura, “that great, great Polish actor” – must suffer Gestapo man Sig Rumann’s dramatic criticism.

Joan Benny – daughter of the legendary vaudeville, radio, movie and television star Jack Benny – is the author of Sunday Nights at Seven, which combines passages of Jack Benny’s unpublished autobiography with her own reminiscences.

35mm. Approx. 90 mins.
