It's because we're English we're sticking out for our right to be Burgundians! An ancient charter unearthed in a bombsite proves a London neighborhood to be foreign soil, which means to hell with post-war quotas and rationing - and hysteria at The Home Office. The script was by the Ealing Studios regular T.E.B Clarke, whose trademark was the logical development of absurd ideas. The isolation of Pimlico and its support by Londoners was a reference to the Berlin blockade. – Wendy Ide, The Times (UK)

Reviews

“One of the most endearingly quirky of all the Ealing comedies. Combines gentle eccentricity with a politely subversive spirit.”
– Wendy Ide, The Times (UK)

“A reminder of a (short) period when Britain were world leaders of thoughtful film comedy.”
– David Jenkins,  Little White Lies
