THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE

Directed by John Ford
Starring John Wayne, James Stewart, Lee Marvin

(1962) “Print the legend.” Senator James Stewart returns to the Western town where, as a rookie lawyer, he argued Law versus rancher John Wayne’s more personalized Justice, finding books no deterrent to nutjob Lee Marvin, the eponymous Liberty. Perhaps Ford’s darkest, most melancholy Western. 35mm. Approx. 123 min.

“The most romantic of Westerns and the greatest American political movie.”
– Richard Brody, The New Yorker

“Ford's purest and most sustained expression of the familiar themes of the passing of the Old West, the conflict between the untamed wilderness and the cultivated garden, and the power of myth.”
– Nigel Floyd, Time Out (London)

THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH

Directed by Afred Hitchcock
Starring James Stewart, Doris Day

(1956) “Que sera, sera – whatever will be, will be,” warbles Doris Day, but little does she know that a Marrakesh vacation with hubby James Stewart will lead to kidnapping, murder, and a classically nerve-shredding race with a cymbalist—under composer Bernard Herrmann’s baton—in London’s Albert Hall. 35mm. Approx. 120 min.
