Filmmakers Barbara Kopple, David Grubin, and Michael Lesser will appear in person at the 8:40 show of Winter Soldier on Wednesday, January 24.

Barbara Kopple is a two-time Academy Award winning filmmaker. A director and producer of narrative films and documentaries, Barbara’s films Harlan County USA and American Dream both won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. In 1991, Harlan County USA was named to the National Film Registry by the Librarian of Congress and designated an American Film Classic. Her other films include Wild Man Blues, Fallen Champ, Running from Crazy, Hot Type: 150 Years of the Nation, and her two most recent projects, Miss Sharon Jones! and Shelter.

David Grubin is a director, writer, producer, and cinematographer who has produced over 100 films, ranging across history, art, poetry, and science, winning every award in the field of documentary television, including two Alfred I. Dupont awards, three George Foster Peabody prizes, five Writer's Guild prizes, and ten Emmys. Grubin has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, has been a Montgomery Fellow at Dartmouth College, and is the recipient of an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, Hamilton College. A former chairman of the board of directors of Film Forum, he is currently a member of the Society of American Historians, and sits on the board at Poets House. Grubin has taught documentary film producing in Columbia University's Graduate Film Program, and has lectured on filmmaking across the country. 

Michael Lesser’s resume spans decades in the film business, including co-founding the award winning film and video production company Grandview Island with his wife and partner, Carol McCann, in 1992. Michael has worked as director, producer and cameraman on projects as diverse as advertising, political campaigns, corporate image films, and documentaries. Michael’s journey as a documentarian also included many years of close collaboration with the renowned documentary team of David and Albert Maysles. In addition to participation in the creation of the timeless documentary Winter Soldier, he also served as Director of Lighting for the classic film, Pumping Iron.
